White Mornings
What joy to wake up on a cold winter’s morning
And look out the window to see a world baptized white!
A wonderful silent snow has fallen while I slept in the night.
And the day that I thought was just regular, is no longer so.
It’s now beautiful, exciting and sparkling like a jewel –
‘Quick Mum get my snow things I must play before school!’
And so released into fresh air I run
And I kneel down in the snow so pristine
And gather it in my arms with wonder, joy and haste
Because time is short and I’ve come to play, touch and taste.
Another morning comes and as I round the stairs,
I gasp in delight at the world clothed in white!
As excitement grows I call to my children to hurry
‘There is time to play before school if you scurry.’
Our day no longer ordinary we’ve been pulled from our beds
With the allure of delicious snowflakes, snowballs and sleds.
And so released into fresh air we run
And I kneel down in the snow so pristine
And gather it in my arms with wonder, joy and haste
Because this season is short and I’ve come to play, touch and taste.
Once again another morn comes with the same dazzling snow.
And with a wonder that never grows old I gaze at the beautiful sight -
For my extraordinary day is now resplendent in white.
But no matter my age the excitement begins to grow
‘There’s snow!’ I exclaim out loud to my dog, “Here’s your leash let’s go out and play’
Together with joy unbounded we are on our way.
And so released into fresh air we run
And I kneel down in the snow so pristine
And gather it in my arms with wonder, joy and haste
Because life is short and I’ve come to play, touch and taste.
